I've just bought a USBTech portable disk for use on my
XPfrom, are of no use. It works OK on WIN2000 but not on
XP.Anyone help please?

if understand what you got is just a USB drive ( does not matter whether it
is an IDE connected via some sort of IDE-USB converter like mine).

If so, try administrative tools, computer management, drive management

You have two options, on map the drive to an existing empty director or
assign a letter to the drive.

map to a folder say C:\MyUSBDrive
right click on the USB drive and choose to map ( sorry, I forgot the
exact choice)

Assign a letter
right click on the USB drive and choose to assign or add a drive letter.

Good luck, sorry that my terminology may not exactly match the choices
available but I trust you will find it. Once done, you should not have any
problem.

Actually on some XP pro PC installation, I don't even have to go into disk
management, and it will come up with choices for me (open folder, autoplay,
....) and map the drive automatically
