PM8 threw a wobbly and trashed C

I installed my new SATA drive on my ASUS A7N8X Deluxe running XP pro SP1-
120g maxtor, was going to partition it using Partition Magic 8 - a 30gb
partition and a 90g one - all was going fine, it then said it needed to
reboot to complete the changes

So off it went, rebooted, and while in the windows/dos hybrid state (where
checkdisk happens) - and threw up and error. Thought maybe it didn't like
my SATA drive, so rebooted into windows

Well, that's what should've happened :) Instead I get complaints about no
OS - On closer inspection, what was my C drive, had been 'converted' into
RAW format (I used a spare HD to boot from)

I can only assume that PM didn't find my SATA drive, and then proceeded to
try and create a 90g partition on a 80g disk

So I managed to recover all my files using Stellar Phoenix as my old verions
of EasyRecover just threw up lots of File000.jpg - Stellar managed to get
the entire HD structure and recover the files (after about 4hrs of churning)

I've been trying to find out if I can just restore everything to normal - I
have my files ok, its just now turned into a little project :)

I tried using resqdisk /rebuild /fat32 - but it didn't seem to do anything -
maybe because its an unregistered version - But I tried using diskpatch -
and it found some FAT32 tables, and looked promising, showing the drive
structure - but i'll be damned if I can get it back to normal - I tried
fixing the MBR, MBR tables and using the Sector 63/69 restore - but to no
avail.

Anyone got any other tips, or should I just accept defeat and reformat?

Cheers for any help

Paul

Hello,

Often, yes.

How was the drive partitioned and how did PM get (approximately)?
Also, you're welcome to create partinfo (see PM user guide) and post the
logfile in our forum
(http://pub50.bravenet.com/forum/show.php?usernum=4220517151), maybe we can
help.

Kind regards,
Joep
