So my cpu sound just randomly went out. I know it's not the speakers
because i pluged my ipod into them and they work fine. I've been to
numerous help forums i've used numerous files that "could be missing".

I've put an audiosvr file back that somone said would fix it and
nothing.

I used this one called restoresrhicon and says safely remove hardware
when i open and there is nothing under hardware devices with display
device component so that doesn't nothing as well.

I DID DO ONE THING THAT MOMENTARILY FIXED IT. I went to system restore
and restored my system back to like 4 months ago @ least. when it came
back on the sound was fine again but all my programs were gone and it
kept trying to get me to reinstall them all and everything so I figured
since the problem just happened in the last few days I would undue the
restore and do it again for only a couple days back.

anyhow I did and the sound went away and now i can't restore it back to
the date i did the first time it only goes back two months and that
doesnt fix the sound.

**** man somone plz help. no one seems to know how to fix this and it
liturally happened overnight outta no where.

Have you got an icon in your system tray? It is likely you have muted
the sound systm. I suggest click on the icon for speaker in the system
tray and check on the mute box. If there is no check beside it then
just press ESC key to leave it as it is! otherwise, click on the box to
remove the check mark.

If there is no icon then go to START, Control Panel, Sounds, Speech and
Audio Devices. Adjust system Volume, and on Volume Tab, uncheck on the
Mute box i.e. remove the check mark.

Hope this helps.

it's not muted and it won't even let me put the icon on the toolbar. it
says windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because
the volume control program has not been installed. to install it use
add/remove programs in control panel. it's said that since i owned the
cpu. and there is nothing to install in add/remove programs.

The CPU is a chip inside the computer's box. It makes no sound.

Are you asking about sound made by the internal speaker inside the computer?
Or are you asking about the sound that comes out of the external speakers
you probably have on you box?

Exactly what sounds are you failing to get? System sounds like the startup
and shutdown sounds? Playing MP3 files? Playing audio CDs? Something else.
Please try each of these and report back on what happens.

Are your speakers plugged in properly? Volume control set high enough?

Do you have a volume control in the System Tray? Is Mute checked?

all cpu sound was gone completely. windows start up etc. etc. my tower
has a built in mini speaker that is internal that would work on the
sound check but the external speakers that are pluged in perfect and
work fine w/ ipods and stuff had no sounds @ all. anyhow I used a
windows xp cd and reinstalled all of the window's back to original and
it worked fine. still not sure what happened or what i was missing.
must have been some window's files not sure how they randomly got
deleted.

luckily the reinstallation of windows (tech i believe it was a repair
but it redid it all) worked fine and thank god didn't delete any of my
stuff on my cpu.
