This scanner is designed for a specific job: to scan bound books. It
does a reasonable job (esp if the binding is not too tight) of
eliminating distortion due to curvature of the pages and smudgy black
margin due to light leakage.

The probelm is with the software and in particular GUI(s). There are
several ways of initiating a scan (from an application such as
PaintShop or PhotoPaint using TWAIN Druver U), using something called
Action Express (initiated by clicking on an icon in the task bar) or
using BookPilot (initiated by pressing a button on the scanner itself).
The problem is that each GUI is different, each allows for some
settings which are specific to that GUI while others affect all the
programs. At times this can be utterly confusing and frustrating.

This is not the most popular scanner so there has been very little
mention of it on this forum. Howvere its design is unique and basically
sound and for a specific job it is almost irreplaceable. Next scanner
to do the same job is BookEye at about 50x the cost.

Are there any other users of OpticBook 3600 scanner who care to share
their experience? I'd be glad to hear from you.

Cheers - b.

I too have this scanner and find it very useful for books. I would
like to have more control over what the buttons do, but their tech
support said, in reply to my query to them about this, that there was
no way for me to change the default settings.

I would recommend it as a all-around flatbed scanner if the software
were more flexible. As it is now, I only use it for books.
