Plugins for IE

I am looking for some examples on "How to write plugins for Internet
Explorer". Can somebody point me to any know examples or articles...

More specifically.

We have a tool/editor like Acrobat PDF. Now if somebody wants to open our
document like a PDF from IE, how does this happen?.. I need to be able to
achieve this.
