I recently tried to install a new HP printer on my home
PC, and the install wizard hangs during installation. I
have tried everything I can think of and even spent two
hours on the phone to HP. It appears to be something in
my system rather than with the printer or driver. Any
ideas?

Yes. I tried that a few different times. I even went
and downloaded the latest driver at the Hp website just
in case. The installation goes all the way through and
then shows a message that says "Installation could not be
completed. Data is invalid". This CPU came was a
display model at the store it came from and I am
wondering if they changed some settings. How can I reset
the user accounts to make sure their setting are gone?

I would try _microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax_..........
Give them more information. Some printers just don't
work to their full capacity in XP. I do know that the
HP drivers must be installed in a certain way.

If I recall correctly that error has been around for a long time! "Data is
invalid" appears to be a permissions issue but I don't remember the details.
Try doing a Google search for "Data in invalid" there are probably still
some articles out there discussing this. I haven't seen much traffic on
this error recently.

FWIW, Len
