Plug-in uninstall

I recently downloaded a plug-in I thought was needed to
see a travel website. Now each time I turn on the
computer, a porno website comes up in an IE type page. If
I click to uninstall it (an icon is provided) it goes
away, but returns the next time I boot up. It also places
a shortcut on the Start bar. Is this a virus? How do I get
rid of it permanently?
