I try to install a USB device (USB to serial cable) on my XP (Pro) computers
A and B. A CD supplied exe file installs the signed .sys drivers correctly in
..../system32/drivers. The .inf file seems to reside only in a temporary file.
On A everything works fine, the unit is correctly identified as a Port and
installed. On B the unit is NOT correctly identified. It is listed as UNKNOWN
(and its ID is incorrect). Once incorrectly identified I cannot upgrade the
driver as the machine ID:s don´t match. I have tried different USB-ports
front and rear with no difference
