My scanner Epson Perfection 1200U is connected to a USB port of my
WindowsXP Pro Sp2 computer. It works OK with one annoying exception.
When I go to Scanners and Cameras in the Control Panel and choose the
Events Tabl and select the option "Start this progam" and make a
choice from the list of programs to start when the Start Button of
the scanner is pressed than nothing happens.
When I however choose the option "Prompt for which program to run"
than that chosen program will indeed start when the button is pressed!
The same happens when I connect my Canon Powershot Digital Camera:
choosing the
option "Start.." does NOT work but the option "Prompt…" is fine.
What is wrong here? A file missing? I have no clue what to do.
Please help and thanks very much in advance.

It does not work because Scanners and Cameras is not the place to execute
the TWAIN interface.
The events tab has a choice of the action of various buttons on the scanner.
You must select an application that is capable of handling the event.

My Canon Canoscan 8400F uses the CanoScan Toolbox to handle the events for
all of the buttons on the scanner.

You must run a TWAIN compliant application to open the TWAIN interface of
the scanner.

A Photo Editor or even Microsoft Word can scan an image from the scanner.

Download the Twain User manual on this page:

Read the part about Using the Start Button.

Thanks very much CSM1.
Sorry, I have not made myself clear but the latest Twain Driver for
this scanner, v.5.53A, is installed and works OK. That is also the
case when I select the option to "Prompt for which program to run"
because the selected program will run; like Photoshop Elements, Epson
Smart Panel or the Canon Camera Window. The problem is however that
the option to "Start this program" straight after pressing the Start
Button of the scanner does not function. One always need in my case to
make an inbetween step by selecting each time a program from the list
after pressing the scanbutton or after connecting the camera.
