Pls help to solve this mailmerge issue

I am adopting MS word 2000 and would try to perform mailmerge with VB
program as a batch job. I found the following difficulties:

If there is 10 mailmerge fields in the document. I will merge 5 of them
first and let user to review it and edit it. I will get the edited document
to perform the mailmerge again with the remaining mailmerge fields. If the
mailmerge fields had merge format then I need to ensure the feature execute
properly. If the data source of the mailmerge fields are empty string or
null then they should be suppressed.
Should there any help?
