Please can someone give me instructions on how to edit the registry so I can
adjust my clock for daylight savings time. I have installed the patch but it
has stopped working. Here is a link to a screenshot showing where I have
reinstalled the patch but still cannot set daylight savings time.
http://img02.picoodle.com/img/img02/7/2/28/f_daylightsavm_6c67a78.jpg
I know there is a way to manually edit the registry to do this but I have
been searching the Microsoft website for days and cannot find the
instructions.
Please help me because I don't have much hair left to pull out.

Couldn't you also just use one of the other GMT +8 timezones, one that does
observe daylight savings time?

Hi Richard G. Harper,

Thankyou for your quick reply. I have already tried to uninstall the patch.
I have reinstalled and uninstalled several times but it does not matter
which I do I cannot have daylight savings working. I have added another
screenshot which shows the patch uninstalled but still not able to have
daylight savings.

A quick background. When I installed Vista on the 3rd Feb, daylight savings
was not an option. After some searches I downloaded a patch from Microsoft
and am able to change to daylight savings. On 25th February the patch
stopped working even though daylight savings does not finish until the 25th
March. The patch has stopped working and I need to reenable it for another
month. I tried to uninstall it and reinstall and have been searching for
several days trying to get it reenabled.

Please, I know there is a way to edit the registry and change this but I
cannot find it on the Microsoft website. Does anybody know how to navigate
the site to find the instructions.

Hi Nita Klew,

A good suggestion but the only other GMT+8 timezone which has daylight
savings is " Irkutsk, Ulaan Bataar" which is in the northern hemishere (i
think) and goes backwards the opposite way. The major problem is Daylight
Savings will not be permanent in Western Australia as the majority of the
population does not want it (as per the last 3 referendums). Our "democarcy"
says the politicians will keep bringing in trials until it is voted in.
Therefore I will have to manually change this maybe six times over the next
three years and would like to find out how to do it.

Thankyou for the good suggestion.

Download tzedit.exe from Microsoft.
After you run it and modify your time zone, you need to go to the clock,
change to a different time zone, click apply, then change back to correct
time zone and click ok. Otherwise it won't change. Maybe you should try this
before tzedit.

Hi Eran,

Your post helped me to fix the problem. When I searched for tzedit I needed
Vista Resoucrce Kit which I couldn't find but anyway when you said to change
to a different time zone was the right thing. Here's what I did,
1) uninstall patch
2) change to GMT+5
3) install patch
4) change to GMT+8
5) Give praise to Eran.

The finsh date was already correct (March 25th) so I imagine it was Windows
update or something which maybe caused it to stop working but I'm just
guessing. I still think I will need to find out how to change it manually
but at least now I have about 9months to find out how.

Thankyou very much, I now pronounce you of legend status. All hail Legend
Eran.

Just wanting to follow up because I found the cause of the problem. I am
running a dual boot and needed to revert to XP to run some tasks. I found
this is what caused the clock to change. I had the patch installed on Vista
but not on XP. I found this out because just recently I needed to boot to XP
again and noticed that the clock changed one hour again. Anyway, I now have
the patch installed on both installations and there is no problem. So after
all the drama, all that I needed to do was to manually change the time. LOL
