I for one want to see that this is centralized managed
product using GPO AD and non-AD environments. Enough of
saying just for home users, there are plenty of machines
and environments out there that need this software and
they won't know it! And it needs to be remain free.

If you are a company please add to this post so that the
final release is what us companies need and remains free!!

I agree 100%, Screw the home users... Its time to support
the people that really pay for all this MS Free stuff.

Microsoft AntiSpyware is needed both at home and at
work. I sincerely hope that it will not just be for home
users because companies need this technology too.

I have noticed that the installer can be run with
the "/a" switch to create an administrative installation
point. This means that it can be assigned to computers
through group policy.

What is needed now is an administrative template that
could be used to manage and lock down the AntiSpyware
settings through group policy.

I have to agree 100% also! There is much out there for the home user
that is already free, programs such as Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and
FIREFOX!. Unless this program is also free, I will not use at home as
Firefox is free and not affected by most of this crap and what does get
through, either Spybot or Ad-Aware takes care of.

Unfortunately, there is little for the company/enterprise systems that
uses central management. What is needed ASAP is a product like this that
has central management and can be controlled by AD/GPO policies.
Updating via SUS(WUS) and/or SMS would be SWEET!

Unfortunately, working for DOD I have programs forced upon me that
require that ActiveX be enabled, which is of course allowing scumware to
proliferate freely. I can block the scumware sites as I find them, but
getting the stuff removed and keeping systems clean is impossible due to
manpower constraints.

I agree 100%. If Microsoft is to continue to have such a
strong market share, they are going to have to protect
their OS from these sorts of attacks. Sure, we can run
users with more restrictions (i.e. not power users and
administrators), however for companies doing research and
development this poses a huge problem. As a Microsoft
admin, I am pestered on a daily basis from our developers
that use Linux distributions as to how they are not
affected by spyware. Eventually this heads up the
management chain, and I have to once again defend why we
use Windows on most of our workstations. If I have to
continue to spend more than half of my day assisting
users removing spyware off their boxes, I won't be as
enthuastic as to why we should continue using Windows
next time I am approached by my managers.

Just my two cents anyhow.

Folks:

I am looking for greater control over this new application from the COMMAND
PROMPT.

I would like to see this application given complete networking capability

Thanks,
JoJo

We have Panda Antivirus that does some prevention on both
the server and workstation but I agree with you we need
something that works through a WAN and protects
everything throughout the domain.

Yep totally agree. We're currently in the market for
some anti spayware, looks like its going to be Spysweeper
by Webroot. Its deployed by group policy and has a very
good console application which allows you to fully
configure and manage your clients, and has some nice
reporting features.

Shees... Why don't you give the guys a chance to figure out how to make it
all work corectly first.

Like most other MS tools, this is most likely is in the works, why would
this program be any different. I mean they have only had it for a month or
so, right?

Or should you distribute it through out the Enterprise in the "Beta" version
"where they make most of there money" first then "Get some feedback".

I'm sure if they did all the feedback they would get would be the deafening
sound of everyone pissing and moaning on how this should not be relased to
the "Enterprise" blah blah blah blah..

Give the obligatory rant a rest. test this tool out on your test PC. See
how it works, what problems you may enconuter on your quest for Admin
Heaven.

If you need Enterprise tools "right now" then go buy them. Nobody is
stopping you, They are available via most major Security Firms, Anti Virus
firms etc. Today. Now. They are waiting for you.

Yeah right, Thats why the MS defragmenter tool only
defragments a single drive at a time, and no network
drives...

Do you get the point of the argument yet?

Do you know that this product has been around for a long
time with all the infrastructure in place?? I grant you
that it is downloaded from the athome section but a lot
of businesses do not have the resources, nevermind the
time to go and learn how to remove spyware and spend yet
more money!!

This thread is created to show the amount of people in
companies that are wanting a centralized version of the
product ASAP.

And MS know how the product works they bought the company
not just the source code, so the original staff will
still be involved!!

I need to be able to package this software to be pushed
out via SMS 2003. I need the ability to lock down the
application to keep users fingers (clickers) off the
bullseye.

I have the Spysweeper running now (30 day trial) and it is
a whole lot better than the Pest Patrol that the company
bought. The reporting features and scheduling is what is
needed. I prefer to do locations (groups) 1 at a time to
throttle down the bandwidth usage.

I am currently researching this application for my
company. We have about 1500 machines and would like this
to be integrated into our windows AD enviroment. If
anyone has any experiences with this or any advice please
let me know...

Look at someone other than Microsoft, they might have it
in a year for the corporate world after screwing up home
PC's and debugging the application. Reading into the BS
on this the application; it will only target known
spyware which has been identified by a group of software
vendor's. Look at SpySweeper by WebRoot, it works very
well (though it cost a bit, gives centralized management,
is AD aware, and is the only product to protect host
hijacks.

This is a BETA. It hardly makes sense for a company to run this on their
machines at this stage of development.

I agree.

Symantec now have some form of protection in their anti-virus software.
however i have found it is no where near as good as a dedicated anti-spyware
product.

i think the MS product works extreamly well and has some very nice features,
especially for a BETA.

However the one feature i would love to see is GPO control. i dont even care
about deployment or updates, i would use it simply for the activeX / script
blocking.

thanks.
