please please help me xp reboot problems!!!!

ok this is what happend. my computer froze, so i restarted it, then it
came up as a black screen looking kinda like dos (i think) it said
operating system not found. i have a emachines desktop t series t2542.
i got restore cd out and restarted my computer. it came up and said
reboot 1 for reboot in dos or something command press 2 . well i did 1
and it said that the chost. txt was not found and something else was
missing. so i did it again this time using the dos. it came up and it
said this

A:\>_

i put after the A:\ cd c:\

to change the hard drive to c to reboot it, but it said directory not
found i dont really now how to use this, my boyfrend kinda does, but my
computer wont work if you know how you can help me please write back i
need my computer to work thank you. you can also e mail me at
(e-mail address removed).

im using my parents computer right now, but i need mind to work so
please help out thank you so much - september

It sounds like either your hard drive has died or that controller on the
motherboard has died. Since you say you aren't computer savvy (and
that's OK, no shame there) the best thing you can do is take the
machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigStoreUSA). Or, if the computer is still under warranty
from eMachines (or wherever you bought it), call them and have them fix
it.
