I am so fraustrated with powerpoint...
running windows 2000.
I created a design template and applied it to a blank presentation that I had created (template was going through approval cycle and wanted to get a head start on the 112 slide presenation I just finished up). Anyway when I applied the template to the presenation, the formatting (fonts size, and title and object area placement) are all messed up on the presentation. When I view the presentation's master slide everything looks good. I have gone through the discussions and even tried some of the suggestion given to others for similar issues -with no luck! As alwys any help, assistance, enlightment is Greatly appreciated.

Not a answer but a suggestion.

When working with templates I choose the stiff drink
everytime !

Try applying it again and then try re-applying the slide layout on a couple of
slides. Do they look better? If not, could you give us a more detailed
description of "all messed up"?

LOL.. I must have missed that tip while scrolling the discussion threads ...This is my first time, Next time I will know better, have the Martini (or three) while working with templates, not after.

Hi Sonia - Thank you.

I tried your suggestion -- no luck. For instance on the design template master slide title area I decreased the font size to arial 20 , shortened the title box, and moved it up the page, when I applied it to the presentation, the title area font came over and arial 10, and the box is back to its original size. In the object area the same thing. On the design template master slide I dreased the bullet level to times 20 font and increased the object box size, when I applied them template to the presentation, the font size came over as times 10 and the box went back to the original size. However when I open the presentations's slide master it shows the correct design template format. I hope this makes sense. Thanks again for any help you can provide.

Same trouble I have always had. I think that the
template does a relative size adjustment instead of an
absolute adjustment based on the template that was used
at time of creation.

Yea I know it sounds like I have had too many stiff
drinks.... but that's my story and I am sticking to it !!

It sounds like you created your presentation using normal text boxes, rather
than placeholders. Is that a possibility?

I'm not sure if this will work any better than Sonia's suggestions.. But
here goes anyway....

Try opening a new blank presentation. Apply the new template to it. Now, use
Insert--> Slides--> From File to insert the slides from your current
presentation. Do not check the Keep source formatting box. Does the new
template apply correctly now?

checked - - used placeholders..yep, no ingrediants for a martini, but I do have a cold coors. Figure for every solution that doesn't work I'll take a chug - my rendition of playing "quarters" ... back to the drawing board...

Thanks again,

M.

Ok - Another shot in the dark. Try using replace fonts to change the font to
something totally strange. Change the font size on that font. Then change
the font back to what you want. Finally re-apply the template. Any
difference?

Oh - another thought! View the text part of the outline. Do a select all and
a copy. Now, open a new presentation based on your template. Paste in the
outline. This should get all the text there just as text which should absorb
the changes in the new template. You will need to go to any slide in the
original presentation and copy the non-text graphics, but it might save you
some struggling....

Hi Kathy-

Second option worked the best out of all of them. Thank you! Looks like I can stop the binge drinking. ohhh wait a minute I might have spoken too soon, the next issue is how not to get the page number to show up on the Title Notes Page.

Thanks again and have a good night! Marianne

That one's easier. View your title master (either in the template or in the
presentation file). Next do a View--> Headers and Footers.Click the options
you want, then click the "Don't show on title" check box. Voila - page
numbers on the content slides, but not on the title slides.

Now, go have a margarita on me - works much better for making PPT problems
solvable than beer drinking since it takes fewer! :)

No beer. Too bad.

After applying the design template, go to one of the slides and apply the appropriate
slide layout to it; a couple times if necessary. Does that help?
