I loaded windows xp home over windows 98, everything went ok, it prompted me to reboot, I did and when it came back on the only icon was the recycle bin. I tried to set up my internet service and it says i dont have a modem, i dont have anything on my desktop to go to does anybody know how to fix this? thankyou in advance

Apparently you did a "New Installation" of XP. Did you save your old system
files from 98? If you didn't back them up before you installed XP, they are
probably gone.
When you do a New Install of XP, all you get on the desktop is the recycle
bin. Try searching for your old files on the hard drive. They ( or at least
some of them) may still be on there. As for the modem, insert your Modem
Drivers CD, and go to the device manager and reinstall the drivers for it.
If you don't know where the device manager is, go to Help and Support (
click on Start, then Help and Support).
Next time try reading the "readme.1st" file on the install cd. As it may
give you direections as to the new install.
