I've picked up some kind of bad internet file in the form of
a search engine called Search-space.com which lodges itself
onto my homepage, no matter how many times I re-set it the
next time I connect to explorer it's there again.
Not only that - and I'm sure this is in someway connected
- but If I'm surfing say on google, it creates loads of unwanted
pop-ups and spam and not all of them are...shall we say for family
viewing..please I'm desperate to get rid of this thing but don't
know where to start looking..I'd appreciate any kind of help
thanks

download these two...update after starting....run and

----after removal-------------------
How to stop home page changes:
BE SURE TO MAKE NOTE OF THIS ITEM:

Use SPYBOT........
Inside spybot press the Immunize button.
At the bottom of scroll area find:
Lock IE start page setting against user changes.
File > Exit

Check Tools > Internet Options and find home page buttons
are unavailable. Tried this on 10 pages that ask to
change home page and each was defeated.

This is caused by parasites.

Hi,
I can suggest you to try this spyware called AD-AWARE, you
can download it from www.downloads.com
This is a software which tries to eliminate unsolicited
programs from windows
Or
You can also click on "start button>programs>
Check if you have any kind of unknown program listed there,
If yes try to click on that name and see if you
get "uninstall option
Or
Go to my computer> click on C:>double click on Program
files
Here you should find the unwanted program installed
If yes> then you find a file name uninstall > if you find
it click on the same
OR
Click on my computer > go to control panel > click on
ad/remove programs> select the program which you want to
remove and click on remove
This should do the trick

Try this

A Search site has downloaded something into your computer.

1. If you have Windows Messenger Service, disable it. The Messenger service
is typically not needed for home users.

Right-click My Computer and click Manage.
Fold out the Services and Applications option and click Services.
Right-click the Messenger entry, select Properties, and choose Disable under
Startup Type.
Click OK.

You should no longer receive messages sent via the messenger service.

2. Use the following scanners to find and remove the website.

SpyBot S&D searches your harddisk for so-called spy- or adbots;
http://security.kolla.de/
or
Adaware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
or
CWShredder
http://www.spychecker.com/program/cwshredder.html

3. Some porn websites redirects links to their websites using your HOSTS
file. Do a search for the HOSTS (without extension) file and remove the
entry.

4. If still no joy, download HijackThis from Spywareinfo download page

http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php

Run the program and you will find many entries. Most are OK. Post the log. I
will find the problem for you.

5. For future preventive maintenance, make sure programs cannot just
download on your computer without your permission. From the Internet
Toolbar, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced. Make sure "Enable
Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)" and "Enable Install On Demand
(Other)" are unchecked.

----------------------------------------------------------------
Re-install Windows

Reinstall Windows on top of itself. You will not lose data. Boot up with
your Windows CD. If not bootable, boot to DOS with CD ROM support. If you
don't have such boot disk, get one from www.bootdisk.com. While in DOS, put
in your Windows CD. Type "setup" or "E:\setup" without the quotes.

If you don't have the Windows CD, the system files may be in the CABS
folder. From a:> type "c:\windows\options\cabs\setup" without the quotes and
hit ENTER.
