We deleted the system administrator. We only have one
user remaining, but that user does not have the system
administrator capabilities. How can we readd the system
administrator?

you might want to do a repair on your OS, I think it will recreate the admin
account. Boot up to your windows cd run the repair option, (the 2nd repair
option). then you should be good to go.

Good luck

The built-in Administrator account can never be deleted. For
more information search the Windows XP Professional Help and
Support Center Suggested Topic titled: Users overview

However, if your computer is in a workgroup, and you are using
the "friendly logon interface" (not the classic Windows 2000
logon interface) when you create a second user with
Administrative privileges the built-in Administrator account does
not appear. To access the original Administrator account press
the CTRL+ALT+DELETE key combination twice during the friendly
logon interface. For more information see the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

KB281992 - Original Administrator Account Does Not Appear During
Friendly Logon Method

Hi Sam,

The system Admin account cannot be deleted. When you add another user the
system Admin comes hidden.

To gain access: Press Control/Alt/Delete Twice for Pro and Boot into safe
mode and login for Home.

TweakUI/Logon/Show Administrator on the Welcome Screen
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Or...

Enable/Disable Administrator on Welcome Screen (Line 5)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Is best though to add another account with Admin privileges and run things
from there, not from the system Admin account. Good luck!

.
Try running SYSTEM RESTORE via start, programs,
accessories, system tools. go back to a point before you
deleted system administor. It will not mess with your
programs and files other than system stuff. good luck.
