Had a computer malfunction, and had to uninstall parts of Microsoft
office suite 2000. Well, now I am missing Word, and need it
back... but I no longer have my 25-character Product Key.
What can I do short of buying a new version?
Any sites that don't cost $ ???
If you no longer have you installation CD and/or product key/serial number
for a product - it's like losing it completely.
Sorry - but with computers (including things like product keys) not having a
backup of the installation media and the product keys/serial numbers is just
unwise and would have been very inexpensive (less than $1.00 US) to prevent
this issue in the case of Microsoft Office installation media and product
keys.
If you lost one or the other - that is your bad.
*However*
You did say you only uninstalled "parts of Microsoft office suite 2000"...
That could be to your advantage:

Download the latest version, run it and if there is still anything left of
your product key on your computer - it should let you know what your Office
2000 product key is.
BTW - Since Office 2000, there have been Office XP (2002), Office 2003 and
Office 2007... You are three versions behind and if you swap files with
anyone - that may be too many. ;-)
You could also consider Open Office - freeware application suite.
