No Help files work on my PC since Saturday. I cannot open Windows Help &
Support or any other Help files. The *.chm extension is no longer
recognized. No error messages....it just won't open. Is there a way to
restore my registry to last week? I removed some old software from the
registry. I never touched anything concerning Microsoft or Windows - just
the old software. I was attempted to clean up my hard drive and get rid of
files I don't need any more. I tried System Restore. Though it has been
running for months, on Saturday June 24 onward is available. Or could it be
a viras? I have scanned my pc and can't find one. I cleaned off all the
spyware as well.

Thanks so much

Try this:

Click Start, select Run, type in:
helpctr -regserver
Click Ok
Wait until you get the message it has been successful.

I tried this and it didn't do anything. I looked up KB article 555329 but
all I got was a page with a half page of blank space. My pc is really acting
weird now. Now my cd burner is not recognized. This thing is kinda becoming
progressive. Is there anything I can do to restore this; or, failing that,
what is the best way to reinstall Windows XP? Thanks so much! Here's my
system info:

WinXP SP2
Dell PC 4550 (4 years old)
256MB RAM
2 HD: 30GB (OEM) & 80GB (added)
1 CD-RW drive
1 DVD-RW drive

I don't think this will work, but try it:

Right-click My Computer and select Manage
In the left pane, double-click on Services and Applications
In the left pane, highlight Services
In the right pane, make sure the Help and Support service is Started and set to
Automatic - if it isn't started, or is set to something other than Automatic, make
it so
Close the window

Does that work? You may need to reboot, but I don't think so...if you do reboot,
make sure the Help and Support service has started by following the steps outlined
above.
