I am entirely new to windows environment and am in a need to reinstall
win xp please guide me how to do it without losing my previous
data.will i lose all my data if i reinstall xp? I have two drives C:
and D:.Can having more partitions affect my system any way?

1st run the file-transfer wizard to save youre data, open the wizard, set
computer as old, select files, folders, settings for it to save, save the data
in a new folder that you create.Once the data is in new folder, move folder
to a cd.Once xp is re installed open wizard set as new computer, browse
to the cd with youre data.Having a 2nd partition could lead to install
problems,
you could, boot to xp cd,recovery,in recovery press enter for password, type:
DiskPart In DiskPart,delete D:,then recreate a partition,then press Esc
key,then
type:EXIT Restart, reboot to xp cd,install xp.D: is now "raw" format it in xp.

Why? What makes you think so? It's seldom the right answer to a problem.

please guide me how to do it without losing my previous
data.

You can't, unless your data is all on d:

will i lose all my data if i reinstall xp?

You will lose whatever's on the partition Windows is on (presumably c:).
WHat's on D: should be safe.

You can also do what's called a "Repair Installation." That's not really an
installation at all, but replaces files. It may or not help you with your
problem, depending on what it is.

You can read about it here "How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install"
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm but I wouldn't do this
before you post back and tell us what your problems are.
