I have two computers one a laptop one a desktop both running windows network
are connected to a router and have unique computer names however, I cannot
see them in my network places. what am I doing wrong?

Adam

Are both systems on the same subnet, browsing will not work across subnets without WINS or making changes to the router?
If they are on the same subnet, Insure that Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled in the network interface, in properties for TCP/IP, then advanced and then under
the WINS tab.
Also make sure you have client for Microsoft networks and File and print sharing checked in the properties for the network interface.
