Mohey,
So what exactly is the question? You seem to have answered any question
that you might have!
It is a very good thing that you have two Domain Controllers. I can not
tell you how important this is!
So, transfer all five of the FSMO Roles to DC02. You can do this via the
MMC or via ntdsutil. Make sure that DC02 is also a Global Catalog Server.
Make sure that DC02 is also a DNS Server. Make sure that DHCP has both DC01
and DC02 listed in the Options.
Now, run dcpromo on DC01. Make sure that it works. If it does not complete
you might have to do a Metadata Cleanup using ntdsutil and adsiedit.
ntdsutil should be available already on WIN2000 and you will have to install
that Support Tools from the Windows Service Pack CD-Media to get adsiedit.
In fact, I might just simply unplug DC01 and then shut down DC01. Then do
the Metadata Cleanup. Then you can format DC01 and start all over.
But, before you do all this is there anything that you can do to address the
issue at hand? Is the any Anti-Virus software installed on DC01? What
makes you think that there is a virus? Removing it from the Domain and
everything that is included is a lot of work. And there are potential
consequences.
Do you have a good backup of any user data ( folders and files ) that might
exist on DC01? And do you know these to be virus-free, if that is indeed
your problem?
