PLEASE PLEASE HELP........
MY COMPUTER HARD DRIVE AND CD ROM LIGHT STAYS ON AND THE COMPUTER WONT START UP........ ANY THOUGHTS PLEASE

Mr_xande

Please don't type all in capitals Mr xande, it makes it much harder to read! :)

Does anything appear on your monitor (anything at all) when you turn it on?

Is this a PC that has just been built, or has it been working for a while and just suddenly started to do this?

It would help if we had some more details of the machine.

Best thing to do would be to disconnect hard drives, optical drives, floppy drive and see if machine will POST.

From there, connect things up one at a time and see if any one causes the problem.

Could be an iffy PSU, bit hard to say, really.

thanks for the info, yes i have tryed that with all the hard ware (not the psu) and still the lights say on

I reckon it could well be the motherboard.

I sent back an Abit KV7 that did exactly what you are describing. It would turn on, the hard drive would spool up and everything would be normal until the point where it was meant to "BEEP" where it just did nothing but repeat the process of hard drive spool up etc etc..

It never posted.

Did you try pulling the CCMOS1 jumper on your motherboard to clear the BIOS? that sometimes helps, look in the manual if you dont know where it is.

hi Chris :thumb: yeah some how i think you might be right (tryed the cmos but that did not work) well it looks like a new mother board  but i realy dont undersand cos the comp did the same thing a few weeks ago so i took the stick off ddr out cleaned it put it back in and it worked, but this time no luck. so thanks for your help.

:D :D :D :D

Wanna buy a Gigabyte GA700N Pro 2 Motherboard? :D

As new, to you sir, 47 smackers inclusive. They cost £70.00-ish new.

It takes AMD XP CPU's btw. I don't know what your system is yet

I know, I know, shameless, heartless plug... ;)

Woah man, don't take my word for it so soon...

That would be my main guess BUT i'm no genius, it may well be something else. Try putting your ram in a different slot. Move it over one. Reseat all your components, like unplug then plug back in.

Try it then.

If that doesn't work then i would imagine it is the motherboard...

I'd say that be a good buy, if you get a new one go with Floppy's - it's a good board and its a good price...provided that your system is AMD that is!

Out of curiosity, what spec if your system

???
