This error began 3 weeks after I purchased this computer and has happened on a regular basis for the last 11 months.
It is a Compaq presaio 6433us with winxp home sp1. I have ran chkdsk and defrag regularly and it finds nothing wrong. I have ran system checks on components, software, drivers, devices, and hardware. But everything comes back as ok! I have been to recommended sites, but I am not computer literate and I have no clue as to what they suggest for this particular error, there are no step by step instructions included. This error has happened during all programs and applications, so there is no certain time to pin the error to.

specs for the error are - 0x0000007a - (0xe173b4a8 0xc000000e 0xbf91ad6c 0x00427860)
other numbers were winsys32 bf91ad6c base at bf800000 3f73195d

I would really appreciate any help I can get!

The following are all common causes of STOP Messages 0x00000077 and 0x0000007A:

The paging file contained a bad block.
If the page file is on a SCSI device, the trap could have been caused by improper termination.
Bad cabling from hard disk to controller.
An error on the disk controller.

If this was reported to Compaq in time it should be covered under warranty. There may be bad cables or you hard drive may be damaged. Check all the cables for damage and connectivity. Down load a trial version of Diskeeper 8 and defrag this also can defrag the paging file and may help. If none of this helps try with replacing the cables first as this is the least expensive,
