please help with password!!

I have looked through the message board and tried a few things, i am a new
manager at a hotel and the ding bat before me had their own admin password,
but that was 3 managers ago. and they have set up another user with very
limited access. i am unable to find a way to get around or change the
password, or even re-up windows. i cannot do any downloads or instalations on
this user... HELP!

It might be that the password for the built in account is blank. If so, you
can login to that account in Safe Mode.

If that doen's work, you can try using a Knoppix distribution disk which has
a password reset tool.

If you can't reset the password, then a reinstall is needed.
You do not need to login to the computer to reinstall Windows. What you do
is:
1. Find the installation Cd Find the cd which installs the drivers needed
by your computer. If you can't find these two items, you may be able to get
replacements from the
manufacturer. Don't proceed unless you have both.
2. Boot the computer and quickly start pressing the F key which enters the
BIOS. There is no standard F key, but if you tell us who made the computer,
someone will know.
3. Change the bootstrap option to boot from the cd first.
4. Restart the computer, and then install Windows.


Other posters will no doubt have additional advice. I would reinstall
Windows only if there is no other way to fix the problems. You can easily
spend a couple of days getting everything to work once again.

I have tried going into the account, it is not blank, because on the help for
forgotten password, the password clue is "houston" i tried to go into safe
mode, to try and change it, but when i got into safe mode, it was under the
limited user... :( what is knoppix and how do i get that?

Knoppix is a Linux distro that runs from CD. It has various tools on it
that can change the built-in Administrator password. It might be easier
for you - since you aren't familiar with Linux - to just use this tool:

Download the .iso and burn to disk with third-party burning software
(Nero, Roxio). Boot with the disk you made and follow the wizard. If you
are still having problems, it would be wisest to have a local computer
professional come on-site and fix you up.
