Please help with Outlook 2000

I have been using Outlook Express and wanted to change
over to Outlook 2000. I'm using Windows XP. I can run
Outlook 2000 in safe mode just fine; but, when I initiate
it from the desktop icon, the initial screen comes up,
the screen hangs for about a minutes, and then goes away
without an error message. I don't know what to do -
please help me!
 
I did not get any error message - Outlook screen loaded,
thought for a minute, and then went away!
 
I un-installed Office and killed off regedit entries,
then re-installed. It appears that Outlook is looking
for a Product ID which is not the latest ID assigned with
the install. I don't know if this is truly the problem
and how to fix it!
