Win2K Server, latest SPs, on a Dell PowerEdge 1500SC.

Everything was fine when we left on Friday evening. When we came in on
Monday morning, however, no one could log on, and the server was in a reboot
cycle. It loads all the way to just prior to going to desktop. We get the
Windows 2000 Server Family load screen, with the ribbon going across the
bottom. The status bar hangs at about 75% for a couple of minutes, which is
not unusual for this server, then when the status bar hits 100%, the monitor
immediately goes black and the server reboots.

I have unplugged everything from the server except for the keyboard, mouse,
and monitor. I also have changed out both sticks of the RAM with known good
ones. Same thing.

There is no possible worse time for this thing to crash. Fiscal year ends
TODAY!!!

Please help me identify a trouble-shooting plan.

Thank you,

jm

try to boot in safe mode...

is it a DC? if yes, try to boot in DSRM to check the event logs...

restoring a backup might be helpful...do you have a valid backup that you
can restore?

It will not boot in safe mode. It hangs at the end of loading the files,
then reboots.

We have backups to specific application folders by Veritas Backup Exec. How
might I achieve a system restore?

Also, is there a floppy or CD-based anti-virus that I can run?

thank you so much.
