I am fairly familiar with windows 2000 but this problem is stumping me. I
have a win2k domain controller which won't boot into normal windows. I'm
able to boot into safe mode w/wo networking but I tried to let the system
start normally and it never did. It actually stayed on the window with the
Windows 2000 logo and the scrolling line at the bottom for more than 2 hrs.
The system is updated with the lastest service packs and nothing was changed
yesterday when this started. I was running a quick backup of some
directories and the system froze. I waited at least an hour before finally
shutting off the pc manually. I waited a short while and tried to bring the
pc back up and this is where I at. Please help if you have any ideas.

TIA,
Chris

Event logs?

Check Event Viewer for errors. Check Device Manager for errors and or
non-starting devices.

Yes, the first error indicated "a device attached to the system is not
functioning" I'd check Device Manager for errors and or non-starting
devices.

Dave,

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. I've got a little more
information if it would be helpful. This morning I checked the hardware, no
problems found. The network card seems to be funtioning without errors. As
far as booting the system, I'm able to boot without problems into safe mode,
safe mode w/network and directory services mode. Though, I have a question
about directory services mode. When I log in, I can open the DNS mmc. I
find it slightly strange that I have a reserve lookup entry but nothing is
listed in the forward lookup area. Is this normal because the DNS is active
directory integrated or because there is something wrong with the DNS
records? Just a thought but I never run into this problem before.

Thanks again,
Chris

Normally your ISP's DNS server addresses would be in the forward lookup zone
but please ask DNS related questions in this group.
