I notice that lots of people ask for answers within this
newsgroup. They are asking the questions of Microsoft,
why then don't you have some answers? It leaves customers
feeling they have to rely on other customers sooner than
yourselves for support. Your massive customer base
deserve better!

This is typical of beta products which you are currently running. Expect
this to change by the final version.

it's on beta, what you expect. beta means its unfinished,
there's bug involved and risk when using beta

Gary;
These newsgroups, like most others within Microsoft, are intended as peer to
peer.
That means answers will usually come from users such as you and me and only
occasionally directly from Microsoft.
What you see is exactly as it is designed.

Also this is a Beta which generally means it is unsupported by the
manufacturer.

Yeah .... it may be beta, BUT, wouldn't you think MS
would be interested in dialog with beta users to
determine potential bugs BEFORE release instead of after
release ??? ..... If not, what is the purpose of beta ??
Just releasing steam,
Jerry

Well, just now within this group we have 18142 "steam" messages
and MS catch/lurking all bugs from this.

What a mess if all of these users send in Beta reports to MS personal.
;)

Do you have any specific problem with MSAS and spyware ?

Hi plun,
thx for your response.. my specific problem with MSAS is
that we have been using MSAS Beta 1 for 4 months ... love
it!! ...works great!!....last week it started slowing
down my machine, hanging and making it erratic. After
watching Windows Task Manager (WTM), it shows a spike to
100% cpu usage every 12 seconds (very consistent) .... it
lasts about 3 seconds. Background for this computer is
about 3-4% cpu usage. While spiking,WTM shows two
programs causing this usage; gcasDtServ.exe and
gcasServ.exe. .... both are MSAS programs. Shut down
MSAS and problems goes away...restart MSAS and problem is
back.
Have uninstalled complete program, Downloaded new program
from Microsoft and re-installed. Works fine for a few
hours and then starts the same problem again.

Running: cable modem, linksys router as firewall, zone
alarm, windows firewall disabled, norton systemworks 2005
premium, spybot, spywareblaster, microsoft anti-spyware
beta 1. All up to date and showing no problems or bugs.

Dell Deminsion 4600
Windows xp home v:5.01.2600 w/ SP1 all updates except SP2
Pentium 4 @ 2.40GHz
1 gb memory and 80 gb hard drive

p.s. ... attaching diagnostics below.

Jerry

Yes, performance is a drag in this beta 1 release of MSAS, expect to see
this change in beta 2 and the MSAS Team does read the newsgroups.

Give this a try, somebody said it fixed the CPU Usage spikes, worth a try:
Update VB v6 service Patch 6 (or something similar!)

I haven't been responding to your messages 'cause I don't have any specific
knowledge that relates to the symptoms.

It occurs to me to wonder whether you've checked on the size of the
errors.log file, typically found in c:\program files\microsoft antispyware?

This is the nature of peer support--you'll get an answer if somebody else
has experience with your issue and knows a fix. Microsoft is definitely
interested in the issues that are seen here. They monitor these groups, and
feedback here does influence work on the product. However, you won't
usually see much direct Microsoft involvement in this or any other public
newsgroup.
