I have a PC that someone was borrowing. The pC was already turned on, and they didnt realize this, and therefore flicked on the surge protected power source. This is turn shut the pC off while it was loading, then restarted it. Since then it goes into a loop of booting. It goes into the user profile selection and login,a nd then after logging in it restarts, and goes back to that screen. I have tried F8, and restoring to last know good configuration, but that as well goes into the same loop. has aonyone else seen this before? Any idea how to resolve this one? I just cant figure it out an am extremely puzzled.

Thanks!

John;
Have you also tried F8 Safe Mode, then system Restore?

If so, perform a Repair Installation:

I have not tried safe mode yet, and then system restore, I will try that now. Do you know anything about loading in safe mode, and then running srdiag.exe? What exactly will this link do; http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/repaxp.htm

Thanks a lot for your help, I appreciate the fast response

John;
This link will explain srdiag.exe
http://www.kellys-korner.com/xp_restore.htm

The other link I gave explains how to perform a Repair Installation.

If it allows you to login... try logging in as administrator... if it lets you do that, then create a new acct/profile & see if you still have the same problem.

This is similar to the Blaster worm behavior, although not quite what
others describe.
