Hello there ,
I am using win xp SP 2 .
I ran the upgrade , it copied all the files and after this it made a boot.
in the boot I got error saying "windows faild to load because a critical
system driver is missing , or corrupt. and the file is "
"\$WINDOWS.~BT\Windows\System32\drivers\d343port.sys".
So I simply took this file from my WinXp folder and boot again, the Vista
setup loades and then after 2 screens it saying "setup faild to load the
windows image file".
Please , any suggestions?
anyway , in case I wont succeed, how can I completely uninstall the vista
installation so it wont ask me to choose if I want to load windows setup or
an earlier windows installtion?
Thank you very much for your help.

vista dvd boot\bootsect.exe

run bootsect /nt52 SYS

this should remove the vista boot menu and put back the xp one

i have intel apple imac and vista installation just totally froze my computer
now - so how am i supposed to format drive to go back to windows xp when it
won't load up

i can get into mac os but not windows -- can you please assist me or direct
me to how to do this w/o losing all data on xp drive originally - thanks

If you had XP previously installed and just installed Vista to another
partition, you should be able to select XP from the Vista boot menu... ? If
the XP is still there (you didn't delete or upgrade), read on.

If you upgraded XP to Vista and can't access, read on.

Before attempting any of the following, unless you are "guru" then it is
best to clone the HDD 1:1 ....
Also since your problem description is vague on details, the following
advice can be entirely wrong and there might be much better ways to resolve
your issue. Essentially, I am flying blind aka Guessing here:

There must be easier ways, this is the hard way:

I don't have Mac, but I'd guess you can either use the mount command on get
some additional tool to mount NTFS partitions from OS X. After doing so you
should see the bootsect.bak in root of some of the partitions. This contains
the previous boot record. If the XP menu was there previously there should
also be boot.ini, NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM in the root directory. Now the
tricky thing is finding a way to put the bootsect.bak contents to the first
sector of the active partition. I bet there's some decent tools for Mac to
do it but I don't know about them.

"Easy way":

Remove the HDD and plug it to workin Windows machine and do whatever you
need to do from there.. (running the bootsect /nt52 V: from vista dvd for
example, AFTER the correct partition has been assigned to drive letter V:\)

well i am stuck as well i need help because i threw away my box and now i
