I am using Small Business Server 2003 and have only one
user on my network That gets the error: The connection to
Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be
online or connected to complete this action. I am trying
to create this users default exchange mail account. I am
right clicking on the desktop icon - properties - putting
in the location of the server - her ID and choose select
and get this error. Her ID can access mapped drives to the
server. I can access the users mail on another client. I
also tried to un-install and reinstall Outlook and the
same condition occurs. I verified the DNS/WINS settings
were the same as another client on the network. Internet
Explorer or Outlook are not set to work online. I can also
ping the server from the client. Any suggestions greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Terry

What version of Outlook, and what SP level?
Re AD - are you using DHCP? Make sure that all servers and workstations
specify *only* the internal AD-integrated DNS server's IP address in their
network settings. The AD-integrated DNS server should be set up with
forwarders to your ISP's DNS servers for external resolution. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300202 for more
info.

We are using Outlook 2003 that came with SBS 03. We are
using DHCP on the SBS server and our ISP is doing the DNS.
I have the clints setup to automaticlly get the IP
addresses and DNS. The user I am having a problem with can
access her mail through OWA. I do want to get everyone on
the same email.

Thanks,
Terry

I verified the network settings on the client that does
not work. They are the same as one that works. I also
verified the DNS settings from the Microsoft knowlege Base
article 300202.

If the ISP's DNS server IPs are being used on any server or workstation IP
configs, you have a problem. Do as I suggested and change this so that only
the SBS server's internal IP is used for DNS, and set up forwarders to your
ISP's DNS servers on the SBS server's DNS console settings.

OK - but you said you were using your ISP's DNS server IPs which confused
me - did you mean, only in the forwarder settings on the DNS server itself?
