I've got the onboard audio card C-Media High Definition Audio Device.
Windows Vista Beta 2 did not have drivers out of the box for this device so
I installed the drivers from the CD ROM.

In Device Manager everything looks fine and everything is reported as OK
however I get no sound.

Here's the only workaround I've been able to get to work

1) Go to device manager and Uninstall the audio device
2) Scan for new hardware changes and the device will be detected again.
Now I have sound.

The only problem now is that the PC will Blue Screen randomly. I can
recreate the blue screen problem by clicking on the volume slider in the
volume control very quickly (making it ding).

The PC then blue screens, reboots and I again have no sound until I
uninstall and reinstall the device.

Anyone encountered anything like this with a more permanent solution?
