Hi,
Is there an equivalent XP newsgroup........I cant find one on my list.
Anyways, I found 6 viruses on a friends WinXP PC and Nortons, after it was
installed, removed 5 of them. The 6th is the backdoor.sdbot one, and it
seems to have done some damage. I cannot get IE6 to load and get an error
any time I try......Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close......ect. Has anyone encountered this problem and if so is there an
easy way out. There is no app on symantec to remove it, and the text version
is more complex than brain surgery. Thanks in advsance John

You haven't removed the backdoor virus yet? You need to do that first.
Norton just says to restart in safe mode and run a full system scan, then
correct any of the registry modifications the virus might have made. They
list the changes here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.sdbot.html
Additionally, try running sfc /scannow and see if the corrupted system
files can be repaired from the cache.

If working in the registry is beyond your abilities, well, perhaps your
friend should find a more experienced technician.
