I was having problems with my Windows 2000 and tried to
reinstall using Windows 2000 Professional. Now whenever, I
turn on the computer it goes to a blue screen that asks
for a username and password. When I type something in I
get an error message: "System cannot log you on: Specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.
Contact system administrator."

The computer is NOT part of a domain and there is no
administrator. Can I get past this screen? Is there a way
to wipe the installation clean and start again.

THANK YOU!!!

Hi Paul. To do a clean installation you have a couple of options. First
configure your computer to boot from cdrom if it will not already do such. Put
install cdrom in drive and boot computer. Windows install will detect the
existing installation and give you a couple of options. You can format the drive
and install or you can install it to the existing Windows [winnt] folder and
delete the old installation. If you do not have any files that you need on that
partition, then just format and install, otherwise select the delete existing
installation. You will be asked to create an administrator password during the
installation that you will use to logon to the local machine after the install
is complete. -- Steve
