David Sharpe

Hello, my name is David Sharpe and I just had my ADSL
Internet hooked up today, or rather tried to hook it up.
I have tried the same connection on a different computer
in the house (the one I'm working on write now) and it
works just fine, but the connection isn't working on the
other computer. The machine that is working is using
Windows XP Home installed by Dell, whereas my computer is
using Windows XP professional installed by myself.

I called the Telus help line (my isp) and asked them for
help, and from there I was instructed to enter the
command prompt and then enter "ipconfig". Nothing showed
up besides Windows IP Configuration. No IP address,
nothing. As it turns out Telus needs this information to
help me in the slightest, and they claim my computer
should have an IP address whether or not I am connected
to the Internet. Can anyone help? Once again, the problem
is that apparently my computer doesn't have an IP
address..

Thank you for you time, and please try to help if you can.

Sincerely,
David Sharpe.

Are your Network Connections service and Remote Access Connection Manager
services running?

Type the following lines at a command prompt to find out

sc queryex netman
sc queryex rasman

Yes, I tried both now, both sc queryex netman and rasman,
and it says both are "running." Once again
tried "ipconfig" and all it said was "Windows IP
Configuration", followed by nothing. If ANYONE has any
other suggestions, please help. I've been talking to
someone else with XP pro and a similiar problem, so I
don't believe my problem is unique.

It won't help with your problem, but I suggest that you always
type IPCONFIG/ALL instead of just IPCONFIG, to get all the
info. Yeah, I know that IPCONFIG should show your IP address
and mask.
