Using XP Pro service pack 2. Two gigs of ram p4.

I have a strange problem. If I right click on the task bar and choose
task manager, it doesn't come up for about 5 minutes and then when it
does it hangs.

Here is the unusual part. If I start taskmgr.exe with the default
keyboard call (ctrl shift esc) it comes right up and it is quick and
normal.

Anybody have any idea on what I can try?
Thank You

I recall seeing reports that a computer virus can sometimes cause problems
with Task Manager.

I suppose you could also check Event Viewer to look for clues/errors flagged
with a red X.
Start > Run
then type
eventvwr.msc
click OK

What happens if you use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to launch Task Manager?
