When i boot my computer up I get an error message of
Checking file system on C:
The type of file system is NTFS
One of your disks needs to be checked for constistency.
Windows will not check the drive.

CHKDSK is verifiying files (stage 1 of 3)
It gets to 5 percent and stops.

Also when it first logs on it says to press any key for it not to go and
when you try to it doesnt do anything.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I dont want to have to do a system restore

Time to run a hard drive diagnostic on that drive. Get the utility from the
drive mftr.'s website, burn to CD (as an image, not as data), boot with it,
and do a thorough test. If the drive fails any physical tests, replace it.

I get this same exact error at boot up and it started about the same time as
your message. However our system makes it thru the disk check. During the
checking process, it eventually finds a problem with a file capilock.dat and
then it says "recovering orphaned file capilock.dat".

Right now this a nuisance. Does anyone have any solutions to eliminate this
problem?

Thanks

Are you sure it stops, the second stage is slkow compared to the first
and last... it will take more than a couple of minutes, usually a lot more.
