My husband used the computer last night and this morning whenever I start to
type in the search engine or log into anything such as email there is an
annoying blinking black "square". How do I get rid of it? Thank you~

Um... try Start>Control Panel>Accessibility Options>open Display tab
Then find the "Width" slider and choose the size for the cursor then click
ok

You will get better quality answers if you provide more information. What
version of XP and service pack are you running? What is the browser? The
email program? Where is this blinking box? In the application - on the
search line? On the screen randomly?

An easy first step is to use System Restore to restore the computer to a
point before your dearest used the computer. I would also use Disk Cleanup
before that to clean out the temp files and internet caches. HTH
