Word Please help me recover a word file

I have changed the extension from docx to zip.

Apparently there is a unspecified error:

line 2, column 119296

I have tried the Open and Repair in word 2007. It didnt work.

Can anyone help me?

You could try System Restore. Take your whole system back to a time before you changed the file extension.

It might work (or not).

I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, if it's purely that you changed the extension by accident i'm not sure if system restore will change it back. Personally i wouldn't try it

I've changed it back to a .docx and the file opens fine

Thanks Me__2001 and nivrip.

@ Me__2001 > Your file would not open on my word. It is still corrupt. I changed it to zip on purpose as it was instructed by many websites to get to the document.xml file so that you could edit it.

I managed to find a program called Recovery for Word which did open the file, albeit a bit f#$ked up, but at least the text is there. Serves me right for using TOC, Indexing and referencing in Word.

I thought that was the case but it wasn't clear from your first post. I'm not sure why the file won't open for you as it works perfectly for me although i am using office 2010

I'm glad you've managed to recover the majority of the contents though
