I have lost my desktop, seriously. I uninstalled a search
bar and now the only way i can access programs is through
the task manager! PLEASE HELP ME!

Well look in the Task Manager. If explorer.exe is running
you have a serious problem. If it is'nt, then run it and
your computer should return to normal.

Jed,

You need to provide a little more clarification. Does the desktop appear as
a "black" window with absolutely no content? Does the desktop appear
"neutered" with the default XP Pro background and no icons? Is it just the
default taskbar that is missing, the area (usually at the bottom of the
screen) with the "Start" button on one end and the "Time" on the other?

Sir George,
I have exactly the same problem. The Desk Top shows
default XP Blue Background and no icons and task bar. I am
also using task manager to access programs. Please Help!!

veekay,

More than likely "Dynamic Desktop Media" has been installed on your
computer. It is known to cause the desktop items to disappear. Use Task
Manager to end the sysu.exe process.

Look in Add/Remove Programs and in Windows\Downloaded Programs for "Dynamic
Desktop Media" and uninstall it. If a "ddm" folder remains behind (could be
in C:\Program Files or C:\Programs\), delete it.

Info about winpup (known adware) can be found at these sites:

May also want to download, update, and run Adaware from
http://www.lavasoftusa.com and Spybot Search
& Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/
