I don't use WMM; I use video software called DV Rack, and I would like to
prevent WMM and the Capture Wizard from opening every time I connect my DV
camera. I understand that I can't remove WMM...

=================================
Try opening WMP and go to...
Tools / Options / File Types tab...

Uncheck all the boxes / Apply / OK.

Also read the following info about
associations:

(307859) HOW TO: Change File Associations
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307859

(311425) File May Not Open in the Expected
Default Program in Windows XP

(this article uses JPEG as an example but
all file types are in the list)

Sorry, I don't know where my mind was...
I gave you info on disabling Windows
Media Player instead of Windows Movie
Maker.

However...the info on changing file
associations should still be useful:

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately this solution didn't work. The
problem is that I am connecting hardware (my DV camera), and I don't see how
changing file associations can help...

I thought if you changed the file association
for the format of the downloaded video from
Movie Maker to your program of choice it
may help.

Sorry for wasting your time.
