Hello all,
First of all, thank you so much for all your help in the past. As I have
written before, I am in the process of scanning a great deal of pictures
(thousands, and no, I don't have the negatives) and need to put them in
digital photo albums.

I am looking for software that will allow me to do the following:

1. Scan multiple pictures in one scan and then separate them into
different files.
2. Touch up the dust and scratches -- some minor, some severe.
3. Touch up color correction -- again, some minor, some severe fading
4. Remove undesirable elements such as, well, in-laws.

Although I have heard a great deal of positive things about VueScan, I'm
still a bit confused about it's capabilities and how it differs from
Photoshop CS (which I do have).

Thanks for all the help you have given me.

You might want to post what type of scanner you have and your computer skill
level so that somebody can help advise you. There are some new flatbed
scanners just coming on the market that incorporate digital ICE which is a
hardware solution that can help you automatically restore damaged photos.
You might consider one of these if your time and desire for low frustration
outweigh the investment of some $$. Automatic software scratch/dust
solutions often actually soften scans, so there usefulness can be limited.
Do a Google search on digital ICE to learn more.

I use VueScan in conjunction with Photoshop CS ....

VueScan is necessary to do the scanning, and feeds the resulting TIFF
file to Photoshop, where I do any editing ...

Check out www.hamrick.com ... that's where VueScan is, and he gives
great leads to other sites for free info ...

Well worth the cost of the Prefessional version ...

Good Luck ...

You've got to post what model scanner you are using.
Vuescan does not work with all models.

Photo Shop is a photo editing software and not scanning software.
Photoshope will interface with many Twain compatible software.
Vuescan is scanning software and not photo editing software. Vuescan
is not Twain compatible so it will not interface with Photoshop. In
other words you can scan with Vuescan and open the file with Photoshop
but you can't scan with Vuescan into Photoshop. You are forced to
take the extra step.

Again please post what model scanner you have.

Thank you all for being so very helpful. You are wonderful. As I
suspected, I will probably use VueScan to scan in the software (I
already purchased the Pro version) and then Photoshop to finish up the
rest. I am using my brother's HP Scanjet 5530 which I know isn't
compatible with VueScan so I think I might go out and buy either an
Epson or a Canon tomorrow.

Thanks again for everything. I look forward to reading all your great
advice!

Your next and most important question should be what scanner you will get.
I highly suggest an Epson model.
