Hi! Is there any tool to know what all sound effects Windowing system
uses to influence sounds, like the bells and sign-on, etc.... the
master-core of all sounds in the platform. What I mean by that is all
sound effects, songs, noise (collectively "SOUNDS") of windows. OK,
hehe, can someone help me? MARVIN

Right-click on the Volume icon in the notification area of your taskbar.
Choose "Sounds".

Marvin

Open Computer and navigate to the C:\Windows\Media folder. All of the system
sounds are in that folder.

There are some sounds that are not there, like the Log On sound, which are
embedded in a .dll file.

Thank you Ronnie. Can you pls tell me, I seem to have this annoying
sound on Windows XP. It sounds like two noises, like sandpaper, and
it happens at random events, and doesn't seem tied to anything, but
maybe I don't understand something obvious going on. Can you tell me,
is there any sniffer or methodology I can use, so when I 'hear' it, I
see some technical display of data which lets me coorliate it to some
file or location to disable it?

This can very difficult to track down. From your description of the sound,
it doesn't sound like a default Windows sound? It's more than likely a sound
that is embedded in a program that you have running in the background.

Take a look at the programs that you have set to start when the system
boots. These will usually have an icon in the Notification Area (beside the
clock on the lower right side of the Taskbar).

Look for any sounds that alert to a specific action that one of these
programs may have in their Preferences or Configuration options.
