My wife asked me to transfer files from our desktop to her
laptop. I first tried to use comcast's online storage and
upload them. That didn't work cuz it only let me transfer
one file at a time. I need to transfer large folders. So
I tried ftp and I couldn't get that to work. Now I told
her I can do it hunny. I went to Staples and bought a
crossover cable. Well my desktop runs Windows 2000 and
the laptop is XP and I connected them. I could see the
laptop on my desktop but not vica versa. So I did an XP
wizard trying to do a home network now I can't see either
computer. Does someone know a simple way to transfer
files between these computers using a crossover? This
seems like it should be so simple. Please help me or I'll
be embarrased. Thanks.

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/ic_firewall.htm

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:
