I'm running Win2kPro with SP4 installed on a standalone PC.
All was fine until about 5 days ago, when suddenly I started getting Stop
messages. These do not occur during startup but while I'm merrily working
along on the computer.
Generally, this is what I get:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------
***STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xF669946F, 0x00000001, 0x00000000)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
***Address F669946F base at F6698000, Date Stamp 3e25b9c9 - disk.sys
Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------
Most of the time the driver listed is disk.sys, but I have also received
messages with Pm2x2hal.dll and uhcd.sys indicated.
I'm looking at the relevant section of the Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional Resource Kit which indicates that "If a driver is listed by
name w/in the Stop message, disable or remove that driver. Disable or remove
any drivers or services that were recently added."
No drivers or services were recently added. How can I disable or remove
Windows drivers and still be able to function?
I've done very extensive scans for viruses and other malware, but the
results are all negative. Likewise for diagnostic tests on memory and
hardware.
I am totally at a loss as to how to proceed here. The Stop error comes up
frequently. I must get this fixed because my wife is taking university
classes that require her to use the computer and have internet access. These
errors totally bollix everything up.
Please help. Any help will be very greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all.
