Can someone tell me why the Edit button might be turned
off (you can't click on it, it's not highlighted). I'm
helping a guy with his website and i want him to be able
to go to a page and push the edit button to open that
page in frontpage. but you can't click on it...anybody
help me?

Here's a guess:

look at Tools | Internet Options | Programs and make sure there
IS a program (Frontpage I presume you want) in the box for HTML
editor... In my case there are two choices: Word and Notepad,
but I am sure I have seen situations where there is nothing
there: perhaps that causes the button to grey out (since it
doesn't know what to launch to do the editing?)

Ali and Kerry,

As far as I know "Notepad" should be there as default anyway, whether
another program is set up or not. If more than one there should be a drop
down menu.

Ali, can he go to "View" and select view source? Does that work? If not
remove or rename and desktop shortcut to notepad, that is a common problem
and I'm not sure but it "May" affect the edit button sometimes.

Also go tools>internet options>general tab and delete temporary internet
files... that also messes with editing sometimes.

Some pages cannot be "Edited" and the button will be grayed out...

Create a page on the desktop with notepad and name it something.html instead
of .txt - or send him a page and tell him to save it on the desktop or
wherever, as long as it's on his local machine. Open it with IE and see if
the edit button comes up then?

Mostly trying to edit pages on a remote server will not work.

Perhaps you should try the last first if you haven;t already done something
like that.
