Please help anyone! Pic quality

I have a problem which is driving me insane.... I have been trying to create
a movie with a combination of clips and pictures, however every time I drop a
pic into the timeline I loose quality of the text in the pic, I have tried
many formats from jpeg, gif, bmp and many more without success. Does anyone
know how I can solve this?

the clips are being moved into a rough draft 320x240 15 frames per second
preview environment... the lower quality helps run the project preview
smoother...

it doesn't result in any less quality in your movie... when you save the
movie, the info will be copied from the source file into the new movie, at
the quality setting you select.
