please help a blonde

My keyboard has extra buttons up the top for music and
volume and other stuff but it doesn't work. It doesn't do
anything when i press the buttons. I've tryed
uninstalling the keyboard but that just made it hard to
log into windows XP?!?! Help!!!
 
You need software to run the keyboard features ... KeyMaestro is one such
program - I'm sure there must be others around
 
I have a dell keyboard with the same feature. They were useless unless the
associated software drivers were installed
