'Morning all,
I have two rather simple questions, the first of which
I'm sure has been answered in this forum MANY times
before. I would be happy to SEARCH for the answer myself
and not bother you, but that's the nature of my SECOND
simple question.
First: I have an XP Pro box on a Win2kServer Domain
that cannot see other machines the network. He can
connect to mapped drives and such just fine, and I
can "\\" to any computer I want and look at it's contents
no problem, but when it comes to Network Neighborhood all
he can see is his box and no other. From everywhere else,
Neighborhood works fine, and I can see his box with no
difficulties. Any help would be appreciated.
AND
Second: When I use the SEARCH function on this forum I
can type in any string I like "Viewing the Network" for
example, and I get a nice list of all the wonderful people
who have asked that question. Great. But, I can never
see the RESPONSES from the rest of the wonderful people
who are answering the question. Am I missing something
here? All that shows up is the initial query and I can
see no way to view the responses (which is what I'd need
so I could glean the answers myself and stop bothering you
all).
Well, that's it.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Hello Art,

Do you have latest servicepack installed? Is computer browser service
running?
Well, I guess you have; actually I have similar problem when mapping a drive
to for example 'server x' and when I later on browse the network, then at
server x I only see the mapped share, not the other shares of this server,
how strange...
I guess it has something to do with a network connection. When you log in at
the moment you are connected and have obtained an IP address from dhcp
server, everythin runs smoothly, I believe.

Answer to Q2: try google newsgroup search. There you'll also find the
answers you can browse.

I'll take question number 2, maybe you can get to number 1 from there.

Easiest way to search newsgroups is to go to groups.google.com

Type in your search criteria there and click the button. When you click on
the results, you will get one message out of the thread, but there is a link
at the upper right for the complete thread. There is a similar link on the
bottom line of each result summary.

Much easier than searching from your news browser, and it can search all the
groups, not just the ones you are subscribed to. Also has a lot more
history than you are likely to have available otherwise.

Thanks,
I'll certainly try that, but actually I was talking
about finding the answer here in THIS forum... the
Microsoft one itself. It doesn't seem that you can get the
RESPONSES to any query that you search for (though, again,
I certainly could be missing something).
Thanks for the quick reply...

Check your ip settings for subnet, and netmask in
particular. then check dns and wins settings.

Try
http://groups.google.com/groups?gidx=260&hl=sv&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=microsoft.public
type in search criteria and choose "only search in microsoft.public" You
can limit the search even more by choosing the exact group in microsoft
that you want to search in.
